Adventures in Nursing
This adventure started about three weeks prior to Charlotte’s Cleft repair on August 21st. I began to expose her to the breast more and more as well as encourage her to “play” after her bottle. She was curious and wouldn’t push it away but due to her lack of suction, couldn’t actually DO anything with it to get any worthy amount of sustenance. I tried to start this process earlier but when she started refusing bottles because she wanted my breast instead, I knew it was WAY to early to start. We couldn’t risk her not getting any oral stimulation and relying on the g-tube to get her nutrition. I certainly didn’t want that Pandora’s box spilling open and skipping about. So I pushed back the date to start with the breastfeeding exposure and so far, things have been going pretty well.
